I have seen them at work. They spend three hours after the stress of work running on a treadmill. They are dedicated to losing weight. Later, I see their car parked at a Baskin and Robbins eating far more than they burnt off. The only result these people are going to get is an early grave.
Now I am not against exercise. I wish I could do more. I am still having some problems since I tore my cartilage but I am able to walk more than previously. However, studies have shown that some people who work out obsessively have a greater increase in heart attacks and strokes. Now I have known people that live long and are very healthy who jog and are in marathons. However, these people eat healthy also. I believe that the people these studies are pinpointing are the ones who exercises and gets the result of a stimulated appetite and uses the psychological excuse..I burned off 300 calories and so now I deserve dessert. Usually this involves an 800-1000 calorie sugar laden sweet with other unhealthy treats scattered throughout the day. I have noticed not a lot of calories are burnt on the treadmill or while jogging. Many people rely too heavily on cardio exercise and forget about a good eating plan.
The American problem is this..gym membership goes up 5% each year but the country is not getting thinner. Exercise alone is just not producing a leaner nation. Most people are still eating processed food, tons of sugar,(it’s in everything) crap fast food and just plain junk. If you want to lose weight, and losing weight is healthy, you have to have balance. You need to eat healthy foods. You need to cut out all sugar except for small amounts of raw sugar, cut out trans fats also. Notice I didn’t say fats..just trans fats. Yes, exercise. Walk, use a treadmill, jog but also build your health with proper diet. I know balance works. I eat well but have a very hard time losing weight because I cannot exercise very much at all. I only lose a pound or two each month, but I do lose. Remember this balance and you’ll do fine.
